Abstract
Introduction: presents the concept of industry 4.0 (I4.0) and problematizes the social and economical impact arising from its application dimensions. It follows presenting the importance of information and data in this social and technological reordering. Objective: to discuss how the application of the principles and ideas of I4.0 affect the librarian practices and the productive context of the library. Furthermore, to present in a synthetic way the modifications that the Library Science teaching programs needed to apply in order to respond to the challenges of the librarian’s capacity in the context of the fourth industrial revolution. Methodology: it utilizes a quasi-systematic review as a research method to present how the national and international literature discusses the impact of the technological applications pictured from the fundamentals of I4.0 on libraries. It’s a descriptive exploratory study with a qualitative approach for data analysis and demonstration of results. Results: Shows that the principles of the fourth industrial revolution are not only directed to the industrial and production processes. They’re applied to different sectors and social processes, including in libraries. It contextualizes how technologies and applications like computer vision and optical character recognition, chatbots and robots can be implemented in what the examined literature calls library 4.0.
