Abstract

Organizations have realized that investing in knowledge is critical to adding value and stabilizing their relationships. Facing this scenario, the University Library of the Federal University of Santa Catarina (BU/UFSC) is facing the challenge of identifying, maximizing, systematizing and sharing relevant knowledge, implementing in its management, Knowledge Management (KM). In this way, this article aimed to identify and report the changes that have occurred in recent years in the BU/UFSC and the elements that influenced those changes. After characterizing the BU/UFSC as a complex adaptive system and conceptualizing the variation element, there were pointed out the transformations that occurred. This process was carried out in fortnightly meetings by the commission formed for this purpose, with the support of the KM@BU framework. The initiatives utilized through the KM and its practices have resulted in the strategic organization of the knowledge and experiences acquired during the last years in the BU/UFSC. Investing in KM is to ensure innovation and communication as a competitive differential, providing an environment conducive to constant learning
