Abstract

This study examined which Brazilian institutions have classification of archival documents plan in order to meet the methodologies used by these institutions and the difficulties encountered in building this. It is characterized as a descriptive, exploratory and qualitative research literature. To learn about the institutions that have classification schemes, it was found in papers published in the Brazilian Congress on Archival Science and Archival National Congress from 2004 to 2012 . Those results, it is noted that the method used by most institutions to drafting the classification plan is functional and that this method is best suited to the needs of various types of files. It was also possible to realize the importance of this classification instrument has in the daily activities of a file and the creation of this enables the management, access, location of documents as well as recovery and security of information.
