Theoretical reference on the use of e-book in Brazilian public libraries

Abstract

Discussions, reflections and effective use of the e-book in Brazilian public libraries require further analysis and scientific that can contribute to the construction of a framework theoretical on the subject. Numerous issues and questions are suspended. This study aims to discuss the need for construction of these frameworks theoretical that can support public policies on the use of e-book in Brazilian public libraries. Regarding the methodology, research was conducted through literature and documents. It’s used a qualitative approach and developed descriptively. In conceptual basis were exposed concepts and characteristics of e-book; discussed the issues surrounding the access and use of e-book divided into themes: business models, policy acquisition of the content, technology platform, management of property rights intellectual and digital preservation; presented the principles of IFLA on using e-book in library and shown the experiences of the use of e-book in elsewhere. In the considerations presented was the most important challenge in the use of e-books, the electronic content , in the case of electronic content is necessary to keep it simple, do serve the not client and the promotion of this material.
