Abstract

Library Science was formed, as a scientific discipline, in the late nineteenth century, from the consolidation of a model that valued custody collections in libraries and the principles of cataloguing and classification. It was with the development of theories and research in the twentieth century, systematized in four axes, that Library Science has expanded its scope of studies. As a result of this expansion, there are contemporary perspectives as mediations, literacy and technologies.
