Abstract

This article aims to describe the structure, functioning and main characteristics of the Sci-Hub collaborative digital platform. This is qualitative research with descriptive and exploratory characteristics that connects the results of the platform's documentary analysis with the interview carried out with its creator Alexandra Elbakyan. Among other issues, it reflects on the genesis of the platform, the attitude of its creator in relation to controversial themes regarding its operation, provision of open and restricted access materials to its users and implications for copyright, a sensitive topic for the platform and its creator given the legal proceedings faced for copyright infringement.
