The information literacy in governmental portal of countries with high Human Development Index (HDI)

Abstract

The main objective of this research is to investigate the information literacy mentioned in the governmental portals of the 12 countries with the highest Human Development Index (HDI), according to the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) 2020 ranking. Methodologically, this research is of basic nature and qualitative approach. As for its objectives, it is exploratory-descriptive and documental, according to the selected procedures. Due to the linguistic diversity, it was chosen to search the term “information literacy” in the translated English version from each consulted website, which six of them showed results in the first strategy. Of all the analyzed results, it is evident that the information literacy is inserted in the formation of a population able to exercise a critical position, autonomous and free; of all the results, the most relevant were obtained in Hong Kong and Norway’s portals. Besides, the study shows that the information literacy is related to several contexts, among them, education, human rights, free press, gender equality and fighting disinformation stand out.
