Abstract

The Federal Institute of Education, Science and Technology of Paraíba (IFPB) is part of the Brazilian educational system whose goal is the scientific and technological development. It aims at accomplishing applied research and in this sense its human resources are organized in groups in order to develop research activities and to potentialize knowledge. This research had as study object a total of 23 IFPB research groups, created from 1994, and it systematizes the indicators of their production. The data was collected from curricula, available at Lattes Platform, in the period from 1994 to 2008, and they were presented by groups classified from 1 to 23, ordered by year of formation. The production of the groups presents meaningful indicators, with significant participation of students; with a total of 2.140 annals publications and 536 journal articles. These are the most used media to disseminate scientific knowledge and technological results. There are 32 pieces of software, 5 technological products and 13 processes or techniques without registration or patent. The groups’ research projects resulted in 6 cancelled projects, 106 concluded and 108 in progress by which the groups managed to get partnerships and financing from renowned agencies proving the importance of the  researches. These indicators corroborate the activities of the research groups for the IFPB to formulate, follow and evaluate research policies so that strategies are implemented in order to update the researches and expand the quantity of the research groups, impelling even financing by public agencies of development.
