Considerations about the establishment of the system public libraries in Distrito Federal

Abstract

Such paper   aims at contributing to the discussion about the establishment of the system of public libraries  in Distrito Federal (DF). Therefore,  it talks at length about  public policies and actions   from the government and directed to the  construction, implementation and modernization of the libraries. This paper describes how  the  national system of  public libraries  in Brazil works, and to what extent  it is related to  plan of actions  in Distrito Federal. It shows the current panorama of these institutions in Distrito Federal and the role of the  city government  in the planning and coordination of  services offered by  these institutions. At last, it reflects on some proposals to the creation of system  of public libraries in DF.
