Analysis of titles of periodicals received by “biblioteca do Instituto de Medicina Tropical de São Paulo da Universidade de São Paulo“, confronting with records included in dedalus bibliographical catalogue of the “Universidade de São Paulo”

Abstract

This paper describes the experience and the procedures adopted in a process of analysis and identification of periodicals received at the Library of “Instituto de Medicina Tropical de São Paulo” of “Universidade de São Paulo”, since its creation. To collect data we used the information from bibliographic records in the the Cataloging Module of DEDALUS Database in the software Aleph 500, Version 18.1 of “Universidade de São Paulo”, following some pre-established criteria. The conclusion is that despite the problems encountered are few significant in relation to the collection analyzed, one should keep a comparative study between the user's needs and the collection available on the Library, so to meet the information needs of its users.
