Abstract
It presents a diagnosis on the dropout of students in higher education, having as a case study the course in Library Science course at the Federal University of Ceará (UFC). It highlights the main public policy measures adopted by the federal government to allow students to enter and stay. It reports on strategic actions aimed at reducing and preventing the premature departure of students, implemented in the Library Science course, between the years 2017 and 2019. Through descriptive and exploratory research, of a mixed, qualitative and quantitative nature, data inherent to dropping out was collected during the period from 2015 to 2019 in this graduate course. The results obtained indicate the main motivations which pushed the students to drop out of the course, emphasizing economic needs and psychosocial problems.
