Abstract

This article reports the professional experience of the author in prison environments in the state of Espírito Santo (ES) and the importance of reading practice and the audiovisual as resocialization tools for prisoners. Also, the contribution of these tools to the social, cognitive development and idleness of inmates. The intention is to discuss the role of the library in the prison environment and what is the role of the librarian in this social context. However, observe the potential of social projects and the establishment of socioeducational and cultural policies for inmates confined in prisons. Also, pay attention to activities that expand the possibilities of education of inmates and promote the reintegration of graduates into social life. The purpose is not to cover up the crimes committed by the intern, but to transform the reality of this individual before society so that he does not come to practice actions that contribute to the return to incarceration. The intention is to educate and not deposit.
