Abstract

Project led by the Pinacoteca do Estado de São Paulo, designed to include names in the Union of Artist Name List (ULAN) vocabulary. The aim of the project, developed from a partnership applied in 2014, was to include Brazilian artists in a multilingual vocabulary specialized in visual arts. Vocabularies are tools for information organization and the Getty vocabularies are presented, focusing on the ULAN’s aspects. The methodology for collecting information about the artists was based on the bibliographic sources and primary sources from the Walter Wey Library dossier collection and other libraries in the city of São Paulo. Part of the process required the study of GRI's procedures for building their vocabulary, based on Harpring. As a result, we could use Portuguese-based rules to normalize Brazilian artist names in the international context.
