Abstract

The National Policy of Reading and Writing is a public policy understood as a strategy to promote the book, the reading, the literature, the writing and the libraries in Brazil. The Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4 is one of the 17 United Nations (UN) 2030 Agenda SDGs and represents a commitment to quality education for the sustainable development of people and the planet. In this sense, this study aimed to present convergences between the National Policy of Reading and Writing and the SDG 4, and for this purpose, the research method Content Analysis by Laurence Bardin was used to objectify it. The study revealed that although there are convergences between the National Policy of Reading and Writing and 2030 Agenda SDG 4, the former does not spell out objectives involving early childhood, pre-school education, technical, vocational and higher education, as well as adult education. Then, it was concluded that in case of having a constitutional change in the National Policy of Reading and Writing, this public policy might consider explicit other actions as objective in its content, so it will be able to promote the book, reading, literature, the writing, and libraries in society while assisting in the long-term consolidation of sustainable quality education in Brazil.
