Abstract
It presents a discussion about the reading mediator librarian and the use of the picture book. Its general objective is to analyze the appropriation of the reading from the mediation with the book of image Ida e Volta of Juarez Machado. As specific objectives: it analyzes how the mediation of the reading with picture book can be realized; discusses the role of the image and verifies the influence of imagery mediation on the appropriation of reading; And investigates how children perceive contact with the picture book. It initially uses as a method a bibliographic review and, later, the action research. As results, he notes that the mediation of reading using the picture book is an alternative to mediate reading in school and that the verbal-visual language allows different interpretations and appropriations by students. It also infers that the most appropriate stage to mediate reading is during literacy. He believes that the picture book can be as complex for children's understanding as the book with written text. It concludes that the mediation initiatives of reading in schools are still dependent on printed media and that there is resistance in using other media, such as the picture book.
