Data governance applied in the cataloging process

Abstract

Data quality in information management has been demonstrating how data governance can be applied in cataloging process as a way of minimizing problems caused by low quality of cataloged data. This research aims to show the importance of data quality in information management and to present suggestions for improvements capable of impacting on the quality of collection data cataloged in the Pergamum software of a public education institution. For data collection, the direct and comparative observation of articles related to this subject research was used, as well as Pergamum management reports. Regarding the nature of the variables studied, the qualitative method was used. This is an exploratory research for elucidating obvious cataloguing errors and proposing a new cataloging process for Pergamum software. At the end, two canvases are proposed: the first one analyzes the process of identifying inconsistencies in cataloging records in library database, and the second examines the cataloging error prevention process. The RACI matrix defines each participant in the process, as well as their activities and responsibilities in order to provide effective results in cataloging through Pergamum software.
