Abstract
The present study aims to assess the impact of a literature reading workshop based on the Reception Theory, by Jauss, in regards to developing reading skills and promoting a taste for reading. The collective reading of the tale "The Telltale Heart", by Edgar Allan Poe, was followed by the historical contextualization of the author and the work, and text interpretation. The workshop was presented as a School Library action for practicing literature reading as leisure and for aesthetic pleasure. The research is characterized as qualitative, through action research, and the data collection instrument was a questionnaire applied to the students. It was possible to infer that the workshop based on the premises of the Aesthetic of Reception had a positive impact on the students with respect to a pleasant contact with literature, therefore, encouraging reading; that it developed an aesthetic perception, through a critical reading, contextualized and interpreted by different readings of the world.
