Abstract

University libraries with their long history have a strong connection with memory. In addition to preserving the records produced at universities, these libraries are also producing memories, as they carry out their processes either in the development of collections, in the administration of resources or in the management of people. The way these institutions develop their work establishes routines, creates habits, generates information and produces documents, which gives them legitimacy and recognition as an institution within society. The preservation of institutional memory, embodied in these documents that can be either archival documents, books, or even important equipment in the history of the library, is necessary, since it is from them that libraries can know their history, rediscover their memory and establish goals for the future.
