Abstract

This paper highlights the importance of identifying and defining the profile of the health information manager to assist in the decision making of the health manager. This article has as main objective to identify in the literature, information concerning the information professional, concentrating on the health information professional, in an attempt to compose the appropriate profile for the information manager in Health. Since this profile is appropriately delineated, we believe that this professional can advise the health manager regarding the appropriate decision making. It is a scientific article, based on a literature review and personal observations of the main author who has been working for over twenty years in the area of health, aiming to clarify the main concepts inherent in the subject and to consolidate knowledge for the understanding of Information professional activities.  The conclusion is that the Health Information Manager is a figure of great relevance in the era of decision-making based on scientific evidence, since it is this professional who knows the sources of information, the resources to evaluate the quality of these sources and the indexed texts , in addition to having knowledge of information management technology applications. Training to map information usage points, identifying the needs and requirements with its clients, completes the profile of skills of the facilitator's profile of access and use of information.
